چکیده

Orange mullein is a biennial plant belonging to the figwort (Scrophulariaceae) family. The vivid yellow flowers are arranged in spikes located on top of stem. It drought and cold-tolerant requiring much sunlight that grows pastures, roadsides, dry weed associations. aim this study was assess effect different solvents (water, 70% acetone, methanol, ethanol) assessment antioxidant capacity leaves orange mullein. Total phenolics higher reach value up 15.70 mg gallic acid per one g leaf weight, while flavonoids more dominant 5.82 quercetin flower. Correlation performed between total phenolics, tannins, flavonoids, tests. mainly responsible high activity establishing correlation with all tests performed, including FRAP, ABTS, DPPH, activity, reduction capacity, NBT test.

Anthelmintic and relaxant activities of Verbascum Thapsus Mullein

BACKGROUND Verbascum thapsus is used in tribal medicine as an antispasmodic, anti-tubercular agent and wormicide. In this study, we investigated the antispasmodic and anthelmintic activities of crude aqueous methanolic extract of the plant. METHODS V. thapsus extracts were tested against roundworms (Ascaridia galli) and tapeworms (Raillietina spiralis). Each species of worm was placed into a ...

Reproductive effort transiently reduces antioxidant capacity in a wild bird

Oxidative stress has been suggested as a proximate cost of reproduction and hence as a major constraint in the evolution of life histories, and it is therefore thought that antioxidants alleviate the effects of reproductive effort on oxidative stress. Furthermore, carotenoid-based ornaments have been proposed to mirror male ability to resist oxidative stress. Using a full-factorial experimental...
